Exhibition continues: 16th September - 13th November 2007

If you don’t know about Second Life, here’s what to do (it’ll take a few minutes first time round, so I suggest you put your slippers on and make a nice cup of tea):

What is Second Life?
Its a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its Residents. Its got people, buildings, land & sea, entertainment and its own currency just like the real world. Its free to join and be there. You get there by using a computer linked to the internet, creating your own character (your avatar) and then controlling this avatar in the virtual world. You can move about, talk to people, see things, do stuff and even buy products (like a new woolly cardigan) made by other residents if you want. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by a total of 9,448,709 Residents from around the globe.

How To Get There:
1. Visit www.secondlife.com
2. Click ‘Join’, in the top right hand corner of the home page.
3. Underneath ‘Join a community’, click the link at the end of the paragraph that says ‘just take me to Orientation Island’.
4. Register for Second Life: choose any first name for your account, and select a surname from the drop-down list. Click ‘check this name’ to make sure your new name is available.
5. Once you have your Second Life name, fill in the rest of the registration form.
6. On the next page, select the appearance of your Second Life character. This is easy to change in future if you decide you fancy something different. You can be a man, a woman, or even animal.
7. On to the next page, fill in the form. Don’t bother with the section on who referred you to Second Life. Make up a suitable password.
8. The next page asks whether you want a Premium Account. Ignore this (unless you genuinely want a Premium Account, of course!).
9. You’ll soon receive an email with a link to activate your account. Click the link. Then you’ll get asked whether you want to download the Second Life software. Click ‘yes’.
10. The downloadable software is 33MB, which will only take a few minutes on a broadband connection. Once the download is complete, to install the software on your computer, double click the install icon on your desktop.
11. Once the program is installed, open it and enter your name and password in order to log in.
12. When you launch Second Life for the first time, you will arrive on ‘Orientation Island’. There, you’ll be shown some simple steps to help you find your way in and around Second Life. It’s worth spending some time here, as you won’t get chance to return…

How To Get To The Gallery:
1. Once in Second Life, click the green ‘Search’ button at the bottom of the screen.
2. Type ‘Comic Book Gallery’ in the box on the left, and hit ‘Find’.
3. Scroll through the results until you see the little green house icon beside ‘Comic Book Gallery’.
4. Click on the name, then on the green TELEPORT button.
5. You are now in the gallery!
